Finding the right person to test a product is never a matter of chance. It's a carefully planned and documented recruitment process, supported by panels whose composition is precisely known. Our 2026 Panel Book maps this process (country by country, profile by profile) and reveals much about the true diversity of the consumers we engage for your studies.
Our proprietary panels: France and Singapore
Two markets in which SYRES has built, maintained and refined its own panels over the years. Data that we control from start to finish, from recruitment to qualification.
In France, our panel has 60,000 panelists10,000 of these individuals can be mobilized directly on-site for instrumental studies or protocols requiring a physical presence. The sample covers all age groups, both genders, and, most importantly, all six phototypes (I to VI): an essential criterion for any cosmetic study aiming to be representative of skin diversity. We also monitor the daily routines of our panelists: facial care, sun protection, body care, and foundation. These real-life routines allow us to precisely target the relevant profiles for each protocol.
In Singapore, our panel of 7,000 panelists reflects the ethnic mosaic of the city-state. A Chinese majority (84%), alongside Malay (7%), Indian (5%), and Thai (1%) communities. A small but finely characterized sample, invaluable for understanding how the same product is perceived in a cultural context very different from Europe. A topic we also presented at the Sensory Congress, where the sensory preferences of French and Singaporean consumers were revealed to be markedly contrasting.
Global coverage, via a network of audited partners
Beyond these two markets, one question often arises: how can SYRES conduct reliable studies in more than 30 countries? The answer lies in one word: requirementWe rely on a network of field partners, members of the ESOMAR organization, whom we audit ourselves and with whom we have sometimes collaborated for more than 20 years. The same methodological rigor and the same quality standards are applied wherever the study takes place.
This network provides access on an impressive scale:
- Japan : 2,000,000 panelists (200,000 available on site), spread across the entire archipelago, from Kanto (37%) to Hokkaido
- Africa 2,645,000 panelists, 76% African and 24% Caucasian
- USA : 950,000 panelists (500,000 on-site), with real ethnic diversity (60% Caucasian, 20% African American, 15% Hispanic, 5% other origins) spread across the four major regions of the country
- China : 500,000 panelists (250,000 on site), with a fine segmentation by skin tone (38% light, 56% medium, 6% dark)
- Latin America Mexico (89,000), Argentina (50,500), Brazil (50,000), as well as Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru
- Europe Germany (43,000), Spain (35,000), Sweden (30,200, including 15,000 on site), Italy (23,000), United Kingdom (20,100), Portugal (15,000)
- South East Asia (Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Cambodia) Indonesia (35,000), Thailand (30,000), Philippines (20,000)
In total, we can mobilize millions of panelists around the world, each characterized according to criteria adapted to their market — phototype and uses in France, ethnic mix in Singapore, skin tone in China, origins in the United States, region of residence wherever it makes sense.
Why this granularity changes everything
A panel is never a single figure. It's a combination of criteria which, taken together, allow for a faithful reproduction of the reality of a market: age and gender, of course, but also skin tone, ethnic origin, region, and consumption habits. Without this level of detail, an international study risks comparing populations that, in reality, have very little in common.
This also allows us to anticipate very specific needs, such as when we developed a visual protocol dedicated to textured hair, or audited the expectations specific to skin with a high phototype, or adapted our studies to Singaporean beauty rituals.
Whether your product is intended for the French market, the Singaporean market, or the 30 countries covered by our network, the question remains the same: have you tested with the right people? We can help you answer that.
